Cowes
Classic Power Boats
In the three years since Honda became its title
sponsor and the British Powerboat Racing Club took
over its running, the Honda Cowes Classic international
offshore powerboat racing festival has set new records
for competitor numbers. It provides a perfect finale
for the Honda Formula 4-Stroke Championship as well
as attracting competitors from across the UK and
around the globe in other classes
Now the biggest one-design powerboat racing fleet in the world, 2003
saw twenty Honda 130hp boats and more than a dozen of the bigger 225hp
fliers out on the Solent at the end of a season that took them to England,
Scotland, Ireland and Wales. |

 |
However, Cowes retains its unique place in their calendar and affections,
giving newcomers and more experienced crews alike their biggest test
of navigation and seamanship on courses which take them around the waters
of the Isle of Wight. |
The 2004 Honda Cowes Classic will host a wide variety of racing most
notably an international fleet of 90mph ocean-going monohulls contesting
the British International Harmsworth Trophy in its centennial year.
|
The
Harmsworth Trophy is powerboating's equivalent of sailing's America's
Cup and Cowes will stage the final race over the famed Cowes-Torquay-Cowes
course, acknowledged to be the toughest test of crew and boat in offshore
racing.
